Theatres of the City

Bristol in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries had a wealth of drama, within and beyond its famous theatres: well-known and little-known plays, some brought in from London, others about to be launched in the capital; street-theatre, fairs, menageries, circuses and entertainments all flourished in the city, at the places this layer displays.
