In addition to bringing the best Caribbean music and American soul and R&B to Bristol, it was also the founding centre for the Bristol West Indian Cricket Club, the Bristol West Indian Football Club and the Western Star Domino Club, and funded the creation fo a theare workshop, with artists such as Alfred Fagon, Norman Beaton and Angela Rodaway playing a mjor role in these activities. Tony Bullimore, the founder of the Bamboo Clu b was also a founder member of the St. Pauls Carnival and created one of the first Caribbean floats in the procession. Although the Colston Hall was just down the road, it took the Bamboo Club to bring such artists as Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Skatalites, Johnny Nash, the Mighty Diamonds, Benny King, Joe Tex and the incredible Ronnettes , and Jimmy McGriff to Bristol." --Tony Bullimore
